Nuno Lucena
Scenographer

Born in 1974, in Vila Nova de Gaia. BA in Scenography from the ESMAE (School of Music and Performing Arts, Porto) in 2001. Over the course of his degree, he attended the Høgskulen, in Bergen (Norway) where he worked in the children’s theatre. He graduated with honours, having studied under a Merit Scholarship from the IPP (Polytechnic Institute of Porto). He studied the Classic Italian Theatrical Machinery. In the 22nd edition of FITEI (Festival Internacional de Teatro de Expressão Ibérica – International Theatre Festival of Iberian Expression), he worked as technical coordinator and was part of the stage machinery teams at the PONTI (Porto. Natal. Teatro. Internacional) festival in 1999 and 2001. He has worked as a puppet maker and manipulator. As a Scenographer, he collaborated in various theatrical projects, like Esbofeteatro (2001), Circolando (2003-2006), Panmixia (since 2008), Teatro das Beiras (2009) Teatro Arado (since 2009) among others, as well as with directors such as José Carretas, André Braga, João Paulo Costa, and others. He has collaborated with several producing companies, namely Elenco Produções, for which he designed sets for musicals Cinderella XXI (2010) and Treasure Island (2011). Nuno Lucena teaches Scenography at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto (ESAP – School of Arts of Porto) since 2003, and Theatre Design at the Soares dos Reis secondary arts school of since 2006.
