António Polainas
Architect PhD, Tv Set Designer
Architecture graduate from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts, he works at RTP (Portuguese Public Radio and Television Broadcaster), where he oversees Image and is the head of the Scenography department.
BA in Stage Design from the Lisbon Theatre and Film School, MA in Architectural Theory from the Faculty of Architecture and Arts of Lisbon’s Universidade Lusíada, Postgraduate Degree in Advanced Studies from the University of Seville, and PhD in Architecture from the University of Beira Interior.
António Polainas has worked in architecture and set design in Portugal, Spain, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor.
Researcher at the Centro de Investigação em Território, Arquitetura e Design (CITAD – Research Centre on Territory, Architecture & Design) and at the Centro de Investigação Transdisciplinar “Cultura, Espaço e Memória” (CITCEM – Transdisciplinary Research Centre “Culture, Space and Memory”), where he is developing his own investigation on “Television Scenography”.
The main subjects his research targets are: Architecture, Audiovisual, Image and Television.
Member of the Portuguese Fine-Arts Academy and one of the founding associates of the Portuguese Association of Scenography.
Since 1999, he has been teaching at university, having taught undergraduate and masters degree classes in Architecture, Set Design and Virtual Set Design. At the moment, he is a Guest Assistant Professor at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School.
He has attended and spoke at several international conferences on Architecture and Scenography in Portugal, Poland, Italy and Mozambique.
António Polainas is trained and skilled in Drawing and Photography, showing his work in Lisbon and in Mozambique.
