Carolina Lyra
Set designer and researcher
Having begun my career as a producer and event coordinator for the Mayor’s Office in Rio de Janeiro, where I worked in creating cultural events, production, scenography and coordinating the assembly of metallic structures for shows and events, I obtained a BA in Theatre, specialising in Scenography, from Rio de Janeiro’s Federal University. As an independent set designer, I created projects for stage plays, concerts, videos, fairs and corporate events. I later obtained an MA in Theatre specialising in Scenography from ESMAE (School of Music and Performing Arts, Porto) and am currently enrolled in a PhD program at the Laboratório de Estudos do Espaço Teatral e Memória Urbana (Theatre Space and Urban Memory Studies Laboratoru at UNIRIO, Rio de Janeiro).
From my production as scenographer, two practices that are connected with research stand out. The first, Yoni, took place in Porto in 2014, and the second, Um Jantar Muito Original, in Rio de Janeiro, in 2015. I’d also like to point out to my Master’s Thesis, Apolo sob o signo da devoração: a antropofagia no desenvolvimento de uma prática cenográfica (Apolo under the sign of devouring: antropofagia in the development of a scenographic practice), which I presented at ESMAE in 2014 as an important step in my trajectory.
