Hugo F. Matos
Set designer, architect and teacher
Hugo F. Matos was born and lives in Lisbon, city where he divides his activity between teaching and set & costume design. A journey that he started in amateur theater in 2001, as a set designer, actor and director – Teatro Artéria. After graduating in Architecture at ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon in 2004 and specializing in Set Design at the Fine Arts School of Complutense University of Madrid in 2009, he joined different artistic teams as a freelancer, having been responsible for conception and realization of set and costume design for theater, dance and performance productions, emphasizing the productions developed with the Teatro do Azeite, association.
Currently he collaborates regularly with contemporary dance company – Quorum Ballet (https://quorumballet.com/en) where he was responsible for set design of repertoire productions such as: “Dois Séculos”, “Correr o Fado”, “Substances”, “Swan lake”, “Alice in the wonderland”, “Nous, inner perception”; “Rite of Spring made in China”, “Saudade back to Fado” e “Romeu & Juliet”.
He has a master’s degree in Visual Arts Teaching from the University of Lisbon (2017) and teaches in the Artistic Production Course – Stage Crafts specialization at the António Arroio Artistic School, since 2011.
