Marta Carreiras
Set and Costume designer

Born in Lisbon in 1975, after graduating in Artistic Studies from the António Arroio secondary school, she obtained a BA in Theatre Design from the Lisbon Theatre and Film School and a Postgraduate Degree in Theatre Studies from the University of Lisbon’s School of Arts and Humanities.
In 1997, she made her professional debut as a set and costume designer with Teatro Meridional, a company with which she started a regular artistic collaboration that has continued on to this day.
Over the course of 20 years, she conceived more than 80 visual creations, having worked with several theatre, dance, music and multidisciplinary companies and artists such as Carlos do Rosário, Ana Nave, António Feio, Pedro Sena Nunes, Ana Rita Barata, Fernando Mota, Rui Rebelo, A Truta, Maria João Luís, Núria Mencia, José Peixoto, Madalena Wallenstein, Sofia de Portugal, Marina Nabais, Sara Belo, Nuno Pino Custódio, Madalena Vitorino, Romeu Costa, Bruno Cochat, Natália Luiza and Miguel Seabra.
In 2010 she was nominated for Best Scenography award, for her work in A rainha da beleza de Leenane, and she worked in several award-winning plays by Teatro Meridional.
Between 2012 and 2016 she was a member of the board of the Portuguese Association of Scenography and, along with José Manuel Castanheira and Rui Francisco, was a curator of the Official Portuguese Representation at the Prague Quadrennial, in 2015.
